Fun historical adventure for fans of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn

Its been half a century since I read the adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. This was a trip back in time to Hannibal Missouri and life on the river. The author does a great job on the details and dialogue of old South. It was quite fun to follow the men who were once boys of prank and con into mature decisions of honor and using their wits for protecting those they cared about. An added bonus was the connections to the town of Mariposa, nearby where I live. We have recently visited the frontier museum there and the authors descriptions of the settings were very real as I could picture so much of the dialogue with the consumer goods and typical furnishings and goods of the era. It was well researched and laid out I think. I would say there is room for further adventures to come, perhaps with celebrated jumping frogs and the like.

Tom and Huck is an enjoyable read. They rediscover their friendship after years, spend time reminiscing memories and find new adventures as men. The story also brings good memories of the American midwest.
